Smoke Testing

A leader in sewer evaluation, planning, design and construction management.

Smoke Testing

Smoke testing is a sewer system evaluation technique that blows non-toxic liquid smoke into the sewer system to find system defects. Forced into the system through manholes using mobile fans, the smoke escapes through leaks in the sewers, providing a visual identification of defective areas. This evaluation work locates leaks in the sewers that allow rainwater, creek water and other storm water run-off to enter the system.  Smoke testing is a low cost technique that identifies many sources of infiltration and inflow (I/I) into the sewer system.

Frazier Engineering field crews have smoke tested over 15 million linear feet of sewer. Our process includes the use of hand held electronic units that digitally document all discovered defects and establish the GPS coordinates of the defect site, enabling our engineering staff to define all defects and design cost effective corrections to eliminate leaks.
